It’s week 15 of Cassie’s Challenges and this week’s challenge is to try a new breakfast dish! What will you be cooking up?
Happy Monday all! Who did the stretch challenge last week? I managed to complete the challenge despite being an avid stretching avoider! And I was surprised to find how quickly my flexibility improved. At the start of the week I couldn’t touch my toes in some stretches. By the end of the week I could cup my foot with my hand!
Adam and I also tried our very first yoga class on Saturday morning and I’m excited to learn more stretches that I can continue using on a regular basis. We are doing a 6 week beginners course to take us through the basics and hopefully it helps with flexibility as well as strength!
Whilst I never could quite get the motivation to stretch before a workout, I made sure I stopped whatever I was doing and had a 10-minute stretch around 3pm to try and work through the afternoon slump. After stretching for such a short time, I found that I felt more energised and calmer too! This is another challenge I think might just stay with me!
Now for this week’s challenge!
Try a new breakfast dish
Those of you who follow me on Instagram might have seen my post last week ago quitting dairy. I’ve spoken previously on the blog about my struggles with acne and I’m starting to get rather fed up with the whole thing. I’ve heard from a lot of people that they’ve had success by quitting dairy and I’ve decided to give it a go myself. At this point it can’t make it any worse! So, today’s the day I’m giving up dairy. I’m starting with a month and seeing how I go from there.
What’s this got to do with breakfast? Well, I realised that majority of the breakfast dishes I eat on a regular basis have some sort of dairy in them! Be it milk, butter or cheese, I woke up this morning trying to figure out just what on earth I was going to eat. I’m not 100% accustomed to dairy alternatives yet, but I’m willing to give them a try.
So, for me, this week is about finding new dishes I can add to the rotation to eat at breakfast time. But the more I thought about it, we can all be guilty of falling into a pattern of eating the same one or two things day in and day out, particularly for breakfast! This challenge is about taking a risk and trying something new.
Maybe you’ve seen those gorgeous looking smoothie bowls all over Instagram but have never been game to try one yourself. Or perhaps you’ve been eyeing off Acai for a while. Or maybe you’ve never tried to poach an egg yourself. This week is the week for all of that!
And if you don’t want to cook it, go out for breakfast and pick something on the menu that you’ve never tried before!
I went out to breakfast a few weeks back and tried a dish with sautéed mushrooms, wilted spinach, roasted potatoes and baba ganoush that I’ve wanted to try and recreate ever since. So that’s my dish for this week. As usual I’ll post the finished product on Instagram for those wanting to play along.
