It’s been awhile between catch ups, so today I’m taking a little break from recipes and filling you in on all the things that have been happening with me.
When I started the blog I used to do this fun little update every month called “What’s Happening” where I’d talk about what I was cooking and eating and what make-up I was loving. I haven’t written one for more than a year so I thought it was time for a little catch up.
I’ve been trying to share less and less of my general life and musings in my recipes so that you guys can just get to the nitty gritty. After all, you might not come to a Banana Oat Smoothie recipe to hear about how much I love true crime. But I’m going to make an effort to do a few more of these in future, because they are actually something I enjoy reading on other blogs.
So allow to me entertain you with what’s going on for me right now.
Oh and none of these links are affiliates. They are just to clarify what I mention in case you want to check it out too.
The Check In:
Cooking: Bacon and Vegetable Slice. Or as Adam calls it “Pizza Slice”. It’s like a Zucchini Slice on steroids and it’s a goodie.
Making: Playlists for our upcoming wedding. My one goal with this wedding was not to spend ridiculous amounts of money, so we aren’t having a DJ.
Drinking: Water. So. Much. Water. I’ve been feeling a bit blurgh this week so trying to flush out whatever is going on with as much water as possible.
Reading: You are a badass by Jen Sincero. I feel like I need a bit of a kick up the pants so here’s hoping this book will do it.
Wanting: Linen overalls. I have no idea why I started to want them but now that I do I can’t stop thinking about them.
Looking: At You Totally Got This Instagram Stories during her trip to Turkey and Jordan and getting so excited for my honeymoon in a few weeks, when we’ll be visiting the same places!
Deciding: What’s next for Be Forever Healthier. I started it as a lifestyle and food blog, then I started gravitating more towards food. I love food, but I really started blogging to pursue my passion for writing and sharing my experiences and being pigeonholed isn’t helping me follow that.
Wishing: That the next week would rush by. Adam is going to the States for work for 9 days, and I hate when he is away.
Enjoying: Reading. I’ve read more this year than ever before, and I have a list a mile long of what I want to read next.
Waiting: For my mother to get back from her camping trip so we can watch the brand-new episode of This is Us. I love that show so bad.
Liking: Kitchen Sink Salads. Well at least that’s what I call them. I open up my crisper and take it all out and make a salad out of it, then tip some EVOO and Balsamic over it for good measure. My favourite would be lettuce, tomato, avocado, cucumber, corn, sautéed green beans and mushrooms and some fried bread. OHH YEAHHH.
Wondering: Why on earth I decided to do an at home HIIT session just on legs this week when I haven’t done anything like that since my tailbone operation 12 weeks ago. It’s the third day after and I’m still limping around the house in pain.
Loving: Moo Goo Fresh Cream Deodorant. I have legitimately spent three years trying every expensive natural deodorant on the internet and then low and behold – the very best was $8.50 from Priceline.
Pondering: I just finished reading Educated by Tara Westover and I’m still sitting with it. It’s a very powerful memoir about a young girl who, kept out of school, leaves her survivalist family and goes on to earn a PhD from Cambridge University. It’s distressing and disturbing and triumphant.
Listening: Armchair Expert Podcast. Anyone else listening to it? I really enjoy listening to the celebrities talk about deeper things that some anecdote they mention on a late-night talk show. Who knew, they really are just like us 😉
Considering: Buying a pressure cooker. I’m all about the quick and easy when it comes to cooking and I really feel a pressure cooker will change my life for the better.
Buying: I just bought a pair of Birkenstock’s and a pair of Converse Sneakers. The birks are for the honeymoon and I’m totally fine with how uncool they are because they are so comfy. The cons are because I saw a mum looking really effortlessly cool in them last weekend and was like yes please, I’ll have what she’s having. You guys do that too, right?
Watching: I’ve been re-watching Parenthood. We recently got an Amazon Prime account and they have all the seasons on their video streaming service. I’m a sucker for any show about families.
Hoping: That we make it through our honeymoon without any kind of sickness. We are going to some countries that aren’t the best for medical emergencies. So here’s hoping we get through this without needing anything like that!
Marvelling: At how lucky I am to have found Adam. I know it sounds corny, but I am just so stinking happy, and I love this beautiful life we have built together. And soon I get to be his wife!
Needing: To find a good gym. We ditched our gym membership awhile back but I think I need to join one again, if only for classes. I love barre and reformer pilates.
Questioning: Whether I’ll try out BumbleBFF – sort of a dating app for friends. Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only person in the world who feels like it’s really hard to make friends as an adult. I feel like because I didn’t have that core group at high school that I missed the boat on good friends for now. And working from home doesn’t help matters because I don’t exactly have work friends. I think I must be at that in-between part of my life as I know a lot of women bond over motherhood, which is yet to come for me.
Smelling: Essential oils. A friend of mine got me onto doTERRA and every morning I put an uplifting blend into my diffuser and get to work. I’ve also been loving lavender just before bed.
Wearing: I bought a linen shirt from Target a few weeks ago and have practically worn it every day. I just love linen in the warmer months.
Noticing: I’m trying to take more notice of how much time I spend on social media. It can be the biggest time suck and I’m so guilty of mindlessly scrolling. I’ve deleted the Facebook app off my phone completely and try to delete Instagram off my phone at least on weekends. I find deleting them off my phone makes it easier because then there’s no reflex to jump on.
Celebrating: The fact that my mum is kicking cancer’s ass. She was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer earlier this year and got to ring the bell for her very last chemo round a fortnight ago. She still has a bit of radiation to go, but she’s out of the woods. We keep saying she’s the least sick looking sick person we know. It’s been crappy, but I’ve enjoyed getting to spend extra time together while she’s been off work.
Knowing: That I’m getting married in a fortnight is EXCITING. But also, occasionally stressful. Have I remembered everything? I know all will be fine and whatever is forgotten won’t be the end of the world. But it’s still hard to shake that “What have I missed”
Thinking: About what healthy dessert I’ll make to take to my Aunty and Uncle’s house to watch the NRL grand final this Sunday. I’ve been wanting to try make this Chocolate Hazelnut Tart for a while, so it might just be that.
Admiring: Pink. I went to her concert here in Brisbane last month and honestly, I didn’t think I was that big of a fan but now I’m well and truly converted. I love her how real she is and how gracious she is to her fans.
Bookmarking: Off the Clock by Laura Vanderkam. It’s a book about time management and I’m popping it on my to-read list.
Feeling: Restless would be the best word for it. Like I have a million ideas and things I want to do but when I sit down to do it I can’t quiet my thoughts down. I’m hoping the honeymoon helps by taking some time away from it all and being fully present.
Embracing: My body. I have not lost one kilo for our wedding. In fact, I think I’ve put one on. Loving my body hasn’t come easy but I think I’m getting there.
And that’s it from me for now. Now tell me, what’s been happening for you?
Oh and I’ve copied and pasted the list below if you want to make one of these yourself. Just be sure to credit Meet Me at Mike’s if you do 🙂
